What For?  ¿Para Qué?

Temazcal’s, which the indigenous people of Mexico and different parts of the world have been practicing for many hundreds of years, is a ritual to cleanse the mind, body and soul.

Some of the benefits include: Beneficios

  1. Mental Healing – Opportunity to free your mind of distractions, offering more clarity.
  2. Spiritual Healing – Offers a place for introspection and connection to Mother Nature and the spirit world.
  3. Physical Healing – Helps the body get rid of toxins; gives anti-bacterial and wound-healing benefits

How is it run? ¿Cómo Funciona?

Hot volcanic rocks, heated by a fire for many hours, are placed in the center of a pit inside the sweat lodge.  Up to 12 people sit inside the lodge, in a circle around the pit with the rocks.  People are invited to connect with the elements of the earth and share anything that might be weighting them down.  Fragrant water with herbs, such as rosemary, sage, lemon grass, mint and others is thrown over the hot rocks to create a steam room effect inside the sweat lodge.

The ceremony typically takes about 2 hours from start to finish.

Is it Safe? ¿No es peligrosa?

We run a comfortable Temazcal, with heat that is not overbearing and anyone who feels uncomfortable can exit the lodge at any time.

How Much? ¿Cuánto Cuesta?

The cost of the group community Temazcal is $15US per person.  We try to keep the cost as low as possible, just covering the cost of wood, herbs, staff to run the Temazcal and property maintenance.  The goal is to make this Temazcal self-sustaining, rather than a for-profit endeavor.

The cost of a private Temazcal for your group is $15US per person but there is a minimum fee of $100US to run it.

What Do I Bring? ¿Qué traigo?

Bring a towel, water bottle, shorts and t-shirt or swim suit to wear inside the Temazcal and dry clothes to change into at the end.  Also, a flash light is recommended.

Where is it located? ¿Dónde está?

The Temazcal is located on a beautiful piece of property right next to a dry river bed in La Manzanilla, Jalisco on Playa Dorada Street, bordering the grounds of La Catalina Foundation.

How do I make reservations? ¿Cómo hago mis reservaciones?
